Overview

As acceptance to top universities has become increasingly competitive, having strong essays has become increasingly important. Beyond numbers on a page, an applicant’s essays give admissions officers a real sense of the person behind the papers, potentially setting him apart from other applicants.

Yet, writing a successful college essay can be daunting. Where do I start? How do I capture all I want to say in so few words? Is my idea creative enough? Is it too creative? Does it truly express who I am? Who am I, anyways? And why do I even want to go to these colleges? Thus, the mind turns, as essays remain unfinished and senior year fast approaches.

The goal of the college essay bootcamp is to help rising high school seniors write the best college essays they can, thereby increasing the likelihood of acceptance at their dream schools. The bootcamp will assist students from ideation to execution. Whether a student arrives with no ideas at all or already half-baked essays, the bootcamp will help students get ahead of the curve before the busyness of senior year arrives.

What to expect:

  • General guidance on writing the application essays to orient students and give them a mental framework for writing their essays.
  • A collection of real sample essays from students who were accepted at Ivy League and top 25 schools.
  • One-on-one brainstorming sessions.
  • Individual feedback on drafts.

Personal tutoring is also available on an ad hoc basis throughout the summer. Please email ngadiano@heights.edu if you are interested in one-on-one essay tutoring.
