This past Saturday, October 24, The Heights Cross Country team won a triple crown by securing victories in the freshman, JV, and varsity races at the WCAC Cross Country Championships held at Washington, DC’s Kenilworth Park. In addition to the team’s first ever varsity championship win, four Heights runners were also selected as WCAC All Conference, and Head Coach Justin Myers was named Coach of the Year.
Varsity had a tight race with St. John’s College High School, winning the school’s first time varsity championship race. The Cavalier runners were led by junior Rafael Tenney (third place), senior Tommy Flynn (fifth place), junior Josh Miller (seventh place), junior Dash Lively (ninth place), and junior Matthew Bailey. Senior Davie Alvarado and junior Robbie Wright finished seventeenth and twentieth-seventh, respectively, proving the staggering depth of the Heights team.
Coach Dan Lively remarked, “Back on August 24th, on our first day of practice, we told the team our vision of winning the freshman, JV, and varsity races at the WCAC Championship. The buy-in from the team this whole season has been the best we’ve ever had. Most importantly, our young men understood that coming to work consistently every day was the only way to achieve our goals. We had a whole team uncommonly dedicated to the task at hand and it was gratifying to see them realize the vision on Saturday. They ran for their teammates, and had any one of them not given their all, we would have lost. The pride that we coaches have in these young men and what they did on Saturday is immeasurable.”
Congrats to the boys for finishing the season strong and congrats to coaches Justin Meyers and Dan Lively for leading the Cavaliers to victory!
