Heights Soccer Makes History with Undefeated Season

On Sunday, November 1, The Heights varsity soccer team completed their undefeated run, defeating Gonzaga College High School 1-0 in the WCAC Championship, held at Carlini Field at The Catholic University of America. The team entered the postseason with a perfect 19-0-0 record, finishing the regular season first in the league and first in the state, according to Max Preps. The Heights defeated a talented Bishop O’Connell team in the semi-finals, before facing Gonzaga in the Championship. This marks the third time The Heights has faced Gonzaga in the championship. After a disappointing loss in last year’s ultimate game, The Heights fought valiantly and defeated Gonzaga to secure the schools third WCAC Soccer Trophy, and complete the sweep of fall sports championships.

Senior Marco Nicolacci was awarded co-player of the year, while seniors Luca Nicolacci and Luke Beglis received first team all-conference honors. These seniors were also joined by junior Leo Jacinto. Seniors Connor Kobrine, Alex Vouk, Alvaro Pellarini-Falco and Lucas Stadelmann, were joined by junior Elias Hughes in receiving second team all-conference honors. The league also gave honorable mentions to seniors Alex Kloetzel, Ben Mitchell, and Quinn Mitchell.

“We knew this would be a talented team,” head coach Colin Gleason said. “Carrying 13 seniors, most of whom played in the championship last year, was going to mean experience and strength. But the key to this season was always going to be about whether we could grow mentally, emotionally. Whether we could learn to not only play hard in spurts and win a few games in a row, but actually have the consistency and stamina and grit to go all the way. This year’s team, especially the seniors, proved that they were willing to grow and change and take on the mindset that was needed to bring home the trophy again. These guys were freshmen last time we won the WCAC and none of them were on the team then; now they get to place the trophy in the case and pass the baton to those coming up the ranks. I couldn’t be more proud of them.”

Congrats to the Cavs soccer team for their historic win and to their coaches, Colin Gleason, Gerard Babendrieir, Kyle Blackmer, and Pedro Paz! The team’s postseason continues as the Cavs begin the MPCSA 2026 Boys Soccer Tournament with their first game against St. Mary’s Ryken on November 10 at The Heights.
