The Heights Cavaliers achieved strong results in both soccer and cross country this year. Some highlights from the season:
Soccer
After a slow start during the pre-season, the varsity Cavaliers claimed an impressive string of in-conference victories that placed it 1st in the WCAC with a 9-1 record by the end of the season. The team claimed victory over DeMatha (3-0), Bishop O’Connell (2-0), Gonzaga (2-1), St. John’s (4-1), and Paul VI (4-0), among others, along with a narrow defeat by Good Counsel (0-1). The Cavaliers went on to win the WCAC Quarterfinals against St. Mary’s Ryken and and Semifinals against St. John’s. In an intense matchup against Gonzaga in the WCAC Championship at Catholic University of America’s Carlini Field last Sunday, November 2, the team lost 0-1, “But not without a fight,” commented Coach Gleason.
Cross Country
Cavalier runners achieved 3rd in the WCAC this season, making it the only team in the league to rank in the top three for five years in a row. The team will finish their season next weekend competing in the Maryland State Championship meet.
