Description and Objectives
We will be reading much of Orwell’s essays, fiction, criticism, and journals. We will give special attention to Nineteen Eighty-Four (1949) and how his other works manifest a similar critique of all forms of totalitarianism, communism, and fascism.
Textbooks
Our texts will be: Orwell Essays: Introduction by John Carey (Everyman Library); and 1984.
Course Requirements
Daily readings; class presentations; blue books exams every two weeks.
