Description and Objectives
In this course, taught entirely in Latin, we will read a number of biographies of historical figures from the Greco-Roman world. Cornelius Nepos is known as a tremendous Latin stylist and storyteller, and his short biographies promise to be a well-spring for our Latin discussions. We will focus on both narrative and grammar, as well as intrigue in the ancient political realm.
Textbooks
The instructor will provide printouts of each biography. These will all be kept in a provided folder.
Course Requirements
This course will require students to do daily reading as well as weekly memorization. There will also be tests and quizzes encompassing the elements read and memorized. Participation via spoken Latin will be a key part of this course.
Successful Students
Successful students will not only be zealously diligent in reading their assignments, but also in spending time reading or listening to Latin every single day. They will be courageous in their use of spoken Latin in the classroom. They will go to the instructor or their peers for help as needed.
