Club Mission
The Cavalier Skate Club seeks to instill in each member a love for adventure, the thrill of doing rad things, and the fortitude to shrug off mere flesh wounds. We meet weekly and skate all over The Heights School campus. Beginners are welcome and the club has a few skateboards for newcomers to share. Boys, both young and old, are welcome every Thursday to skim the sidewalks, airwalk down stair sets, and bask in the bliss that is sideways motion.
Events & Topics
We meet during lunch recess in the Valley and skate the sidewalks there. After school, we meet in front of the gym and skate the surrounding area until 4 p.m. So meetings are Thursdays from 12:10 to 12:40 p.m. and Thursdays from 3:10 to 4:00 p.m.
Although it has never been done, there is a remote possibility that the skate club will embark on its first field trip to a local skate park. That would be a noteworthy event. We also have access to an array of ramps and rails and may build our own skatepark for a few meetings this year.
Skills & Benefits
Basic techniques such as pushing, turning, tic-tacking and stopping are taught. As each boy learns the basics, more intermediate skills are imparted, such as riding off curbs, manuals and the varial. A right of passage is the mastery of the ollie, which opens the door to all kinds of gnarly tricks. Advanced skaters have been known to land, heelflips, kickflips, grinds, railslides, fakie big spins and even the occasional tre flip. If you attend this club regularly, you will be more joyful, playful, fit, tough, and radical.
Additional Resources
The Fairfax Surfshop is a local shop that is owned by a Heights family. This is a great place to get outfitted.
