Heights Heroes Camps are a series of moral imagination adventure camps for boys ages 4 to 8. Classroom activities such as story times, virtue talks, history/geography lessons, sing-alongs, and more, all led by Heights teachers, inform the imaginative outdoor and indoor play that the boys will participate in throughout the week. Heights Heroes Camps are designed with your young sons’ moral, physical, and intellectual development in mind. Our themes engage and inspire the inner-hero in each boy, and our teachers, counselors, activities, and lessons are all focused on helping him grow into the strong young man of character and virtue that he was made to be, all while he has the best week ever!

Heights Knights

Hear Ye! Hear Ye! The King calls all pages and squires to rally to his banner for training to become the next generation of Heights Knights!

Join us to learn the knightly virtues of chivalry, service, and strength as we practice our swordsmanship, learn about medieval weapons and armor, and prepare for the King’s great tournament of champions!

During each week of camp we will learn how to use the knight’s particular tools of combat, from sword and shield to lance and bow. We will also dive into the world of medieval fortresses, learning about the various parts of these stone strongholds as well as the machines created to attack them. Special activities will include questing, dragon-slaying, block castle building, and more!

Guided by daily readings of some of the greatest of knight’s tales, each of our young pages and squires will train in service to his lord and lady (namely, Dad and Mom) and advance toward his knighthood through acts of service, chivalry, courage, and skill. Each knight will return to his home castle at week’s end with his own play sword and customized shield of his own design.

Tall Tales Camp

Tall Tales Camp is a weeklong exploration of the great heroes of American legend and history such as Davy Crockett, John Henry, Paul Bunyan, and more!

Each day we will read stories about a different hero and explore his particular virtues while also learning his skills and tools and playing games. Throughout the week the boys will compete in contests based on the tremendous feats of these great Americans. Campers can look forward to the Stormalong Paper Boat Regatta, Paul Bunyan Axe-Throwing, the John Henry Steel Drive, roping like Pecos Bill, and much more fun. Each boy will return home at the end of the week with his own rubber band pistol and a Tall Tales Camp T-shirt.

Staff:

Mr. Kyle Blackmer has been teaching history, literature, and Latin at The Heights for over a decade. He is also the Director of The Heights’s famous Clan Games, a series of festive physical competitions that Heights boys compete in throughout the year.

Mr. Alex Hadley teaches middle school English, Latin, and math. Before returning to his Alma Mater at The Heights, Alex taught at Northridge Prep in Chicago where he ran the Northridge edition of the Dangerous Camp for Boys. Mr. Hadley coaches cross-country and track at The Heights and completed the Boston Marathon in 2026!

Mr. Joe Blumenauer is a 6th grade homeroom teacher at The Heights, guiding boys through English, history, science, and math. A graduate of The Heights, Joe returned to the school after teaching for several years in San Antonio. Mr. Blumenauer is also the creator of the incredible, year-long, Heights sixth-grade “Minute Man” competitions.
