Athletic Honors 2019-20

As we look forward to the start-line of a new year, it is fitting that we commemorate some of the athletic successes of the previous year.

Two of our varsity coaches received honors for their exceptional leadership.  On the pitch, Colin Gleason earned the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference Coach of the Year Award for the second consecutive year. And for his work on the pool deck, Tom Royals received the Washington Metro School Swim and Dive League Coach of the Year award.

Under their leadership, three of our students were honored for excellence in their respective sports. Jordan McMillen, a captain of the varsity soccer team, was named the 2019 WCAC Player of the Year and was selected to the Washington Post All-Met First Team. Moreover, McMillen was selected to play on a national team for his age group in club soccer. This fall, he will continue his soccer career at James Madison University. Together with his teammate, Jorge Dickens, Jordan was also selected to the WCAC First Team for the 2019 season.

Our athletes saw success not only on land, but also in water. Freshman diver, Finn Gelbach, was named All-Met Honorable Mention and was selected to the WMPSSDL All-League team for diving. In his rookie season, Gelbach finished in first place in all diving dual and tri-meets. He won second place in diving at the National Catholic Championship tournament, first place in the WCAC tournament, first place in WMPSSDL, and second place at Metros.

We look forward to continued athletic growth this year, as we dive into new waters.
