Goals for Middle School

September

Intellectual

  • Homework habits (study space, time, etc.)
  • Internet in the bedroom? Get it out!
  • Suggestions for use of the Assignment Book
  • Study/Do HW 2 Hours per day

Moral

  • Classroom behavior (self control, open up more, etc)
  • Taking ownership of the school. Healthy school pride. Keep it clean, orderly.
  • Heroic minute
  • Limit the amount of TV/Videogames

Spiritual

  • What the school offers: Mass and Confession
  • Daily Visits to Blessed Sacrament
  • Forming a habit of prayer: morning offering, bedtime, rosary, etc.
  • Morning Offering

Physical

  • Extracurricular Sports
  • Sports to be played this year
  • If not already, try out for at least one sport
  • Try to get MS fitness patches
  • Sleep
  • Eat healthy

 

October

Intellectual

  • Review Class by Class progress
  • Make and keep all notecards organized
  • Study notecards/definitions each night, regardless of quiz/test

Moral

  • Check quality of movies before seeing them- no matter what!
  • Don’t do something you like until HW is done
  • Looking out for friends. Have they become better because they know you?

Spiritual

  • Questions and Issues from Religion or Ethics Class
  • Taking Advantage of Confession and Mass
  • Examination of Conscience

Physical

  • Extracurricular
  • Run hard during practice—especially windsprints
  • No complaining—to coach or to parents
November

Intellectual

  • Discuss 1st Quarter Report Card
  • Study two nights ahead for every quiz

Moral

  • Do Chores cheerfully/on time/without being asked
  • (8th grade) discussion about holy purity
  • The importance of not being self-centered or overconfident. The value of humility

Spiritual

  • Preparing oneself for Christmas
  • Exposition of Blessed Sacrament
  • Explain significance of Advent
  • Praying for an intention 2 or 3 times a day

  • Help coach with equipment before and after practice

  • Go out of your way to be friendly to classmates who lack friendship.
  • Helping around the house in preparation for Christmas
  • Generosity with one’s possessions

  • Offer each day a small sacrifice for a family member

  • A daily Christmas plan for push ups and sit ups
January

  • Encouraging unity among classmates
  • No talking/disrupting class
  • Always, and I mean always, telling the truth. The truth will make you free.
