The Heights is pleased to offer an introductory program for incoming 3rd Graders, Summer Reading Deep Dive: The Trumpet of the Swan. This interactive teaching immersion will be a live camp and a deep dive into the children’s classic novel by E. B. White.

Why not beat the dog days of summer by making new friends and having fun completing summer assignments at the same time? Rising 3rd graders are welcomed to campus to get acquainted with The Heights’ way of learning by exploring this wonderful story alongside future classmates. Other benefits of this week-long program will include: learning how to better read a novel, appreciating journaling and learning about the natural history context of the story, discussing key developments together while learning how to take notes for added comprehension, experiencing the pleasure of listening to this audiobook recording -read by the author himself!

This program will be taught by Mr. Patrick Miggins, a veteran Heights teacher who has also taught 3rd-grade religion in the valley’s log cabins. This morning program will be held under the shade of a large tent or in a log cabin in the valley, where we will observe social distancing protocol.  Each camper should bring a snack and his copy of The Trumpet of the Swan.  We will take two recess breaks each morning session to play games and get to know one another. Register now as space is limited to 20 campers!
