Fr. Rene Schatteman grew up in Chicago where he got to know Opus Dei while attending IIT (Illinois Institute of Technology). Shortly thereafter he went to Rome where he studied for three years while living close to St. Josemaria. He was ordained a priest in 1960 and has given many retreats, mostly for married men and women, many days of recollection every month and has devoted many hours of his priestly life to hearing confessions and giving spiritual direction to persons attending the activities of Opus Dei.
