What is the schedule for the afternoon activities bus? The bus departs
The Heights School promptly at 5:30 pm and drops off at two locations: St. Luke’s Catholic Church and School east parking lot at 7001 Old Georgetown Pike, McLean, and Dolley Madison Library at 1244 Oak Ridge Ave, McLean. The drop off times are approximately 6:00 pm at St. Luke’s and 6:15 pm at the Dolly Madison Library, depending upon traffic.
Do I have to meet my son at pick up? Families are requested to meet their sons at St. Luke’s at the time of drop off, while riders being dropped off at the Dolley Madison Library may wait there for their rides. (Library hours here).
What is the price for the service? The cost of a single daily trip is $8.00
How do I purchase rides on the bus? Payment for bus trips is accomplished online by the purchase of tickets representing a set number of rides that you determine. Tickets may be purchased here. These tickets are good for the entire year.
Can tickets be purchased by other means? Though the online method of purchase is preferred, tickets may be purchased by cash or check through the Business Office.
Does my son have to present a paper ticket to ride the bus? No, as long as you have purchased a ticket, all a boy needs to do is present himself to the driver or faculty member conducting the boarding of the bus. A ticket will be subtracted electronically from your ticket balance and an email sent to let you know the number of tickets remaining.
What if my son wants to bring home a friend? Either the friend will need to purchase a ticket to ride, or your ticket balance will be deducted for the extra ride.
What if my son is already signed up for the regular after school bus, and only wants to use the activities bus on an “as needed” basis? You must still purchase a ticket in order to use the afternoon activities bus, as the cost of the service is independent from that of the regular bus.
I would like my son to ride the afternoon activities bus the entire year is that possible? Yes. Please call the Business Office to make that arrangement. The fee would depend on whether you are currently signed up for the regular after-school bus or not.
What is the service on scheduled half-days of school? The service will run as usual, departing The Heights School at 5:30 pm.
What is the service in the event of inclement weather? The school follows Montgomery County Public Schools. In the event of an early dismissal or closure the service will be cancelled for that day.
Why are the stops for the activities bus limited to McLean? The primary aim of the bus is to assist families who do not wish to make the two-way trip over the American Legion Bridge at the height of the rush hour. In addition, the bus originates at the school and adding stops deeper into Virginia would pose an unacceptable burden on the driver.
