Father Arne Panula, former Vicar of Opus Dei in the U.S., passed away on July 19, 2017 after a long battle with cancer. A former chaplain at The Heights in the 70s, Fr. Arne, as we knew him, most recently served as our honored guest speaker at this year’s Maryland Day Gala in March. He left us a singular memory that evening with his prayer and exhortation to holiness.
His wake will be held at the Catholic Information Center on Friday, July 21, 2017, beginning at 4:00 pm. The wake will conclude Saturday, July 22, 2017, at 8:00 am, following an all-night prayer vigil. Confessions will be available from 4:00pm-8:00 pm during the wake at the CIC.
The funeral Mass will be at the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle (1725 Rhode Island Ave NW, Washington, DC) on Saturday, July 22, 2017, at 9:30 am. The body will be available for viewing at the Cathedral from 8:45am-9:15 am. Parking at the Cathedral is limited.
Immediately following the funeral, there will be a reception at the University Club (1135 16th St NW, Washington, DC).
The burial will take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery (13801 Georgia Ave, Silver Spring, MD) on Monday, July 24, 2017, at 10:00 am.
